Rowing, rowing, rowing!

Just completed a very full weekend of racing with the boys 1st VIII!  Traveled up to the famous Henley race course and completed a 3k in decent time for us, seeing as we haven't trained on anything longer than about 1.4k .  We managed to hold of the Cambridge University lightweights for the first 1500 metres, and then it took them 1000 metres to get past us and on to the finish.  Quite a race, really!

Sunday, we had the normal Isis Winter League that we've been competing in on most Sundays this term.  The boys were a bit knackered from Henley but they still put on a good show, taking second place with a very impressive split time (basically, a split time is how 'hard' one pulls).  All of the other crews on the river are looking decent, but we're definitely one of the top ones, if not in the top 2.

Torpids is coming up next week, which is essentially what we've been training for all along.  It's a four day bumps style race where boats are lined up about a length and a half away from each other and the goal is to 'bump' the boat in front of you.  Basically, the fastest off the line do the best, which is quite good for us as we have a lot of speed.  We're predicted to do very well, so fingers crossed for the boys (and me!) staying healthy and showing up ready to race with full intensity!

St. Catz Ball!

Last night I indulged in my first Oxford University ball... quite an epic experience.  It was at St. Catherine's College (St. Catz) and it was circus themed, quite literally.  There were huge big-tops all over their quad with about 10 different rooms to enter.  Free burritos, pizza, drinks, entertainment, etc!  You name it, it was probably there.

Our friend group made a hilarious 'scavenger hunt' picture game for St. Catz, which involved mostly random people and funny activities.  That certainly made for hilarious pictures throughout the night, as well as some very fond memories.

Without further ado, some pictures!

Website layout for Catz.. seriously cool!

It's been such beautiful weather here in Oxford!  Seriously, about 50 degrees with a light wind.  It's a little hard to believe that it's only February.  I hope the spring weather continues!

Had formal last night, which was a blast, as always.  Spent time in Jack's room afterwards (we ended up having our shoes thrown from a second story building... can't say that it was our best moment) with all of the friends.  I'll post a few pictures!

Tomorrow is St. Catherine's College Ball, which is going to be AMAZING.  Basically all of St. Anne's is attending, so it's going to be ridiculous (in a good way!)

Be on the lookout for pictures soon, I'm sure!  Here's a few to hold you over...

Terribly sorry for the lack of updates!  Last week was a bit crazy.

I actually don't have any tutorials (personal sessions) this week, so I have lots of free time that I'm busy cherishing!  It's nice, for once.  I had really great tutorials last week, with both my essay and presentation getting lots of compliments (a rarity here at Oxford, I find!).  Hopefully I'll be able to keep it up next week.  Keep the interesting topics coming!

Last Friday was the first 'formal' of term, which we all want to turn into a tradition.  We had SUCH a great table of people!  I'll include some pictures from that.  Basically, once every two weeks St. Anne's holds a 'formal' hall where everyone gets snazzy and they serve us much better food than normal along with wine.  We purchase tickets for about £10 each, which is cheap compared to what you'd pay for a likewise meal out in Oxford.  Plus, you get to pick the table you sit at, so we stacked our table with great friends.

I have another IWL race coming up Sunday, hoping to beat our time from last week.

We have some exciting social-life activities coming up, as well.  The 12th will mark the first ball I'll attend at Oxford!  St. Catherine's College is holding a huge ball that most of the St. Anners are attending, so I'm really, really excited about it.  Apparently balls last until early morning!  Then, on Valentine's Day, our boathouse is holding a huge party downtown.  We share a boathouse with St. Hugh's and Wadham Colleges so we're getting together to have a cumulative rowers party with lots of rowing-named drinks, etc.  I'm one of the co-planners, so expect many pictures from that event when it rolls around!

I also just started booking my spring tickets with a friend of mine.  I think a lot of our Anne's friends are going to meet up with us at some point during our trip, which is going to be AMAZING.  Our itinerary thus far is: Alicante (to visit my good friend Sarah), Santander (to visit Sabrina's good friend), Madrid, Paris (to visit several good friends), back to London for the FAMOUS Cambridge v. Oxford boatrace, Berlin (with friends) and then Amsterdam (where we'll meet most of our friends)!  It's going to be awesome awesome awesome.  I'm so excited.

My parents are also coming around April 9th and we're planning on doing the UK.. ie. check out Oxford, London, Stonehenge, Dublin and Edinburgh.

Here are your obligatory pictures!
